Template description
Day-0 employee fans out into three arrows at once: Provision hardware and accounts, Deliver HR paperwork, and Assign onboarding buddy. None of those three points at another. There is no first task among them. All three arrive separately at System orientation, which is a join, not the second step in a list. Only after that join does the line continue to 30-day check-in. You cannot read a sequence into the top of this picture. Orientation waits on the branches you have drawn into it, and the check-in waits on orientation.
When to use it
Use it when IT, HR, and the buddy's manager each think their task is step two. The fan-out shows those tasks share a start and share a meeting point, which is the argument to have before day 0 rather than during it.
How to adapt it
Add a fourth parallel arrow for any team that must finish before orientation, such as facilities or payroll. Remove a branch you do not run. If orientation can start when hardware is still late, stop drawing that arrow into the join. Rename 30-day check-in to your real checkpoint. Do not insert an arrow among the three top boxes unless you have truly ordered them.
